Welcome to Best Agapanthus™
We’ll Make Your Garden Green and Gorgeous

with Australian bred Agapanthus

We love agapanthus!
With an indisputable "wow factor", yet easy to grow, agapanthus are among the best perennials for Australian gardens.

Instantly recognisable but always sensational, the flowers add elegance and charm to any garden. They make a sensational cut flower for decorating indoors, too.

Out of flower, the strappy, clumping foliage adds texture and lushness to the garden without needing a lot of water. They are generous and easy-going plants coping with drought, light frosts, poor soil, salt winds and neglect.

There's certainly a lot to love about agapanthus. This website focuses on a number of evergreen agapanthus recently bred in Queensland.
 Our Agapanthus Varieties

There's a choice of plant sizes with agapanthus from the large and spectacular, suitable for feature planting, to mid-sized and dwarf agapanthus suitable for edging and other small spaces.

Because they're long-lived plants, you'll want to select the best agapanthus variety for your site and personal preferences. John and Gail Craigie have made further developments in the breeding of evergreen agapanthus since Agapanthus Cloudy Days and Agapanthus Queen Mum and these new agapanthus are showcased on this site.  You find extensive information and pictures about these  agapanthus in the varieties section to help you choose.

Check back from time to time as further new Australian bred agapanthus will be selected and added to this site.

The agapanthus covered in this website are all evergreen agapanthus and are best suited to Australian conditions with the exception of areas where heavy frosts or wet tropical heat may occur.   Deciduous agapanthus, on the other hand, are best suited to climates where winter day time temperatures do not exceed 8 degrees Celsius with little sunlight and are subject to some frosty mornings. Semi deciduous agapanthus, that is, a cross between deciduous and evergreen types, may cope better with warmer summers than deciduous types but the foliage on both may yellow or completely die back during cold winters.
